***** "It’s gifts like these that mean the most and are remembered forever"

One of the things we never expected when we started Woxbox was that it would give us a front-row seat to some of the kindest words people will ever receive... before the person they're written for has any idea they're coming.
Every Woxbox goes through a quick editing pass before it's printed. We check that cards are signed, everything reads clearly, and we catch anything that needs a second look. But you can't do that kind of read-through without absorbing what people are actually saying.
We've sat in our production space more times than we can count, genuinely moved by a stranger's message and feeling the excitement build as we prepare their project... knowing exactly what it's going to mean when the recipient opens their Woxbox.
Those moments remind us why we started Woxbox in the first place.
When we first started Woxbox, we had already been creating "Words of Kindness" boxes for our own friends and family for many years.
We knew firsthand how amazing it made the people in our lives feel to know, in a tangible way, how much they were loved and why. People kept telling us it was the best gift they'd ever received because it was the gift that keeps on giving.
The reality is, so many of us think these amazing things about the people in our lives and hold all these special memories tied to them. Yet far too often, we assume they already know, so we don't take the time to say how we feel and share all the reasons why... before it's too late.
So we launched Woxbox, excited to give others an easy way to share their own words of kindness with the people they love.
What we didn't anticipate was just how deeply these stories would affect us.
And so we thought you'd enjoy seeing a glimpse behind the scenes of some of these stories... shared with permission, of course.
Some are sweet. Some are joyful. Some are heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.
All of them remind us why this matters. 💛

The Mother's Day Gift That Kept On Giving - We'll start with the story we think about most.
A customer and dear friend put together a Woxbox for her mom on Mother's Day, filled with messages from her family about why they loved her. Her mom got to sit down, read every single word, and truly know in a tangible way exactly how her entire family felt... while she was still there to feel it.
Less than a year later, her mother passed away unexpectedly.
At the funeral, one by one, each person stood up and read the message they had written for her out loud. The same loving words. Except this time, they were being spoken as a goodbye.
It was heart-wrenching and comforting all at once.
The part that really stays with us is that her mom actually got to hear those words, in full, while she was still here to feel them.
Twenty-One Reasons She's Amazing - We found this story so heartfelt and impactful.
A mom put together a Woxbox for her daughter's 21st birthday, built around one theme: 21 reasons why her daughter is so amazing.
We can’t stop thinking about how this would have felt… imagine reading 21 specific reasons why your mom knows you are a genuinely great person. To truly be seen like that. It's the kind of gift that doesn't just celebrate a birthday. It handed her daughter a list of proof that she matters, right at an age when most of us are still figuring that out for ourselves.
The Retirement Woxbox We'll Never Forget - This one came from a customer who co-founded a company decades ago, for the business partner he'd built it all with, right as that partner was stepping into retirement.
Woxbox for retirements has turned into a big part of our business, but this particular one has really stuck with us.
Part of it was the scale of it... the retiring partner had touched so many people across the company over the years that it took more than one Woxbox to hold all the messages. Entire teams, spread across different corners of the organization, each had their own memories to share.
As we read through those messages, it became clear this wasn't someone who had simply built a successful company. He had built a legacy of kindness, respect, and genuine relationships that people never forgot.
It was especially touching to read his co-founder's message, where he shared that working alongside his partner had been one of the greatest privileges of his career.
The bond of mutual respect that grew over decades gave us all the feels... especially since the two of us can genuinely relate, working alongside each other building our own dream right here with Woxbox.

Eighty Memories, Two Sisters, One Mom - On a sweet note, this one just makes us smile every time we think about it.
Two sisters came together to build a Woxbox for their mom's birthday and decided to fill it with 80 favourite memories from their childhood. Some were milestone moments or family vacations. But a lot of them were small. A funny moment they remember. A specific moment in time from decades ago, that one of them never forgot.
They added old photos on the back of each card, and by the time it was finished, it was this beautiful curated collection from their childhood, told from two different points of view about their mom.
We can only imagine what it felt like for their mom to sit down and feel such love as she revisited all those beautiful memories her daughters had been quietly holding onto all these years.
A Woxbox for Memorials - We know how this may sound at first. A memorial Woxbox... that sounds sad. But really, it's the opposite.
Once you sit with it for a minute, a memorial Woxbox might be one of the most beautiful things we get to be part of.
Think about how someone wants their loved one remembered. Not through sympathy or sorrow, but through the feeling of being loved, out loud, by everyone whose life they touched. Writing that down, putting real words to a memory, a connection, a story... can be genuinely healing. There's something about putting grief into words, especially shared words, that gives it somewhere to go instead of just sitting there.
And reading it back, whether you're the one who wrote it or the family receiving it, tends to bring on something we don't have a clean word for. A tear falls, and a smile shows up right alongside it. Sometimes even a laugh, at a memory that was just so them.
That's what we see, over and over, in the memorial Woxboxes that come through our production room. Love pouring out of every message, memories that make you ache and grin in the same breath, people remembering loved ones in such a beautiful way… and the best part is knowing that the family has a keepsake they can keep forever, to revisit time and time again.
A Teacher's Legacy - On that note, the impact of this memorial Woxbox will always stay with us... and it involved an entire tight-knit school.
A beloved teacher passed away, and what was beautiful was how the school put together a Woxbox for that teacher's family. Instead of only inviting fellow teachers to submit messages, they opened it up to everyone... staff, current students and their families, plus their entire community of former students and families who hadn't set foot in that school in years. Anyone whose life that teacher had touched was invited to share their messages.
The response was incredible. Message after message came in about the difference this one teacher had made, sometimes in ways that teacher probably never even realized. A student they'd encouraged at exactly the right moment, which shaped the direction they took. Parents who, many years later, still remembered the impact this teacher had made on their child at such a formative time. Years and years of quiet impact, all showing up in one place, in a tangible way.
We can only imagine what it meant for this teacher's family to see the full scope of who they were and how much they meant to so many people.

The Two Woxboxes Closest to Our Hearts - Of course, we can't finish without including these two Woxbox stories. Both are a beautiful reminder of just how much it matters to say the words we feel while we still can.
We'll tell them in our own words, with a tear in our eye and a smile on our face.
Carey: I made my Mom a Words of Kindness box a few years before Woxbox was officially launched. She loved her messages and told me she was so moved to know all of the reasons people loved her. In some cases, she hadn’t realized the impact she had had or how much she meant to some of the people who had submitted messages. She would re-read her messages from time to time and it always uplifted her spirits.
My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a few years after. While her diagnosis and the progression of the disease has been challenging, I feel so happy in my heart to know that she was able to read all the messages while she still understood them, and that she truly knew and felt how loved she was and was able to hear all the reasons why. Not only that, but as her memories have faded, these same messages have been re-read to her since, as a gentle reminder of who's who in the family and how much everyone loves her. It really has been a gift that keeps on giving
Cindy: I had waited to present my mom with a 75th birthday Woxbox, as her milestone birthday was near our scheduled launch date. Timing wasn't on our side though... the completion date came and went, and so did her birthday. What ended up happening was even better though, because my mom became the joyful recipient of our first ever "Just Because" Woxbox, which I presented to her right after we launched. The timing meant more to me than I expected it would, because it aligned with my belief that we shouldn't wait for a special occasion to say the words we feel, we should say them now.
Plus, as an added layer, we even managed to garner a beautiful message from one of her best friends, shortly before that friend passed away. My mom already knew how special a Woxbox was, but holding her very own in her hands filled with all the reasons she is loved by the people in her life was a full-circle amazing moment the two of us will never forget.
For us, these stories provide are a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do.
Every one of these stories started the same way: someone decided it was time for a special person in their life to hear how much they matter, and all the reasons why.
That's it.
It really is that simple.
We believe it's our relationships in life that matter most... so putting that love into a keepsake gift of your own words, and making the people who receive them feel amazing, means everything. 💛
With Kindness,
Carey and Cindy

What occasions can I make a Woxbox for? Almost any occasion when you'd like to show someone how much they matter. We've seen Woxboxes created for birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, retirements, memorials, graduations, teacher appreciation, baby showers, employee recognition, and "just because" surprises. No matter the occasion, a Woxbox brings together heartfelt messages from the people who care about them most, creating a keepsake they'll treasure for years to come.
How long does it take to make a Woxbox? Much less time than people expect. Getting started only takes a few minutes, and we've designed the process to be simple. Just invite family, friends, or colleagues using your unique link, and everyone can add their own message whenever it suits them. Once everyone has contributed, we take care of the rest.
Can a Woxbox be made for a memorial? Yes, and it's one of the most beautiful ways we've seen to honour someone who has passed away. Family and friends can each share a memory or message about the person, and it becomes a keepsake the family can hold onto and revisit for years.
How many people can contribute to one Woxbox? Each box holds up to 150 unique double-sided messages. We've seen everything from a handful of close family members to entire communities contribute to a Woxbox, like the school we mentioned in this post. You share one invitation link, and each person adds their own message on their own time. Everyone can contribute from wherever they are, making it easy for families, friends, or teams to collaborate... even if they live in different cities or countries.
What if I don't know what to write? That's really common. To help, we built writing prompts right into the platform so you can easily get started, even if you're staring at a blank page.
Can photos be added alongside the messages? Absolutely, and it's a favourite feature for a lot of our customers. The sisters in this post added childhood photos to the back of each card, turning their memories into a beautiful trip down memory lane.
Can a whole community, like a school or workplace, contribute? Yes. The invitation link can be shared as widely as you'd like, so a school, office, or community group can invite everyone... including people who may not have seen each other in years but still have something meaningful to share.
Do people really re-read their Woxbox messages? They do... and that's one of the things we hear most often. Unlike flowers or many traditional gifts, a Woxbox is something people return to on birthdays, anniversaries, difficult days, or whenever they need a reminder of how loved they are. That's why so many customers tell us it's "the gift that keeps on giving."
Did the people in this blog know their stories were being shared? Yes, every single one. A Woxbox is a personal gift, so we reached out to each person or family and shared exactly how their story would appear. We only moved forward with their permission.
Have Carey & Cindy made a Woxbox for their own families? Yes. In fact, two of the stories in this blog are about our own moms. Those Woxboxes have become some of the most meaningful gifts we've ever given and continue to remind us why we believe so deeply in saying the words while we still can.
Ready to create your own Woxbox? We'd love to help you create something truly meaningful. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, retirement, wedding, memorial, teacher, parent, or simply someone who deserves to know how much they matter, we'll guide you every step of the way. Start your Woxbox here.
